"Local Area"
Situated in the popular fishing village of Lybster, this well-presented semi-detached stone property offers three bedrooms and has been renovated in 2020 by the owners. Stuart Buildings offers guests a very comfortable holiday home, comprising of a spacious open plan kitchen/dining room with a central island and a range cooker and French doors that lead to the garden which is large and offers great rural views. There is a large living room with an open fire and a quiet seating area. On the first floor there is the master bedroom and a spacious bathroom with a roll-top bath. On the second floor is the second bathroom, also with a roll-top bath and two further bedrooms.
The village has a local pub which is only 200 yards away, a shop and post office and there is a local hotel that has a bar and serves food. You can catch a ferry from the small harbour to Wick and hopefully see some of the stunning wildlife. This is an ideal base for exploring this stunning coastline, the near by town of Wick is perfect for a day out or why not explore the north coast of Scotland or even pop over to Orkney. Beach ¾ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 200 yards.

"A Little Bit of History"
Stewart buildings was built in 1871 and has seen many different professions over the years.
The original living quarters were on the upper floors and you can still see original features such as the beautiful woodwork in the first floor bedroom. The ground floor was originally a shop front and has been many things from a butchers shop to a beautician over the years. The extension to the rear was added and the living area was spread over all the floors. At the beginning of lock down we purchased the adjoined building and plan to renovate the property. It was originally a shoe shop with again the living quarters on the upper floors. The old stone walls at the bottom of the neighbouring garden was once a black smiths and were home to stage coach horses.
The village of Lybster was once one of the three largest herring fishing ports but over time and drop in fish stocks the harbour has become much quieter. The harbour still hosts fishing boats but on a much smaller scale and in 2019 the harbour featured in the popular series The Crown.
We highly recommend a visit to Lybster harbour for it is soaked in history and boasts stunning scenery.
The village also once was part of a light railway of which started from the Wick station and linked the small villages of the east coast of Caithness. The station house can still be seen and is located at the local golf course. Parts of the original route are visible periodically along the route to Wick, one of which stands out is the old station at Thrumster.
