THORA CLYNE

My paintings are created in my studio at home in Kinross-shire, Scotland, from sketches, reference photographs and from memory. They are inspired by my travels and my love of cats and landscape.

I taught drawing and painting at Edinburgh College of Art after having graduated there with Honours in Fine Art and receiving a Post-Graduate Scholarship and Travel Award. I have exhibited widely, including the Royal Scottish Academy Annual Exhibitions, Perth Visual Arts Forum, Hanover Fine Arts, Edinburgh and with Fife Dunfermline Printmakers.

Travel has yielded much inspiration, notably to France, Italy and Romania. I respond also to themed painting competitions, e.g. "London Lives-Travel 2011". when I was successful in having a painting chosen to be one of 100 works included in this exhibition at the Bankside Gallery during September, 2011.

A drawing of landscape in Caithness, my birthplace, which was included in "Terrain", an exhibition featuring works purchased for Scottish Schools in the 1960's and shown at Edinburgh City Art Centre, 2012, has been retained for their collection.

My prizes include The Anne Redpath Award, 1989 and Special Prize, 1984, both awarded by The Scottish Society of Women Artists.
