Shelley Thornton lives and works in St Ives, Cornwall and paints in acrylics, mixed media and oils. Her paintings are characterised by both texture and tone. Her work is contemporary and quite abstract.
She is influenced by the exterior world and her own thoughts, feelings and emotions. Time and space are a particular theme.
She often works in vibrant colours as it is colour that lights up our lives and affects our moods. Words and poetry often feature in her work. If a picture tells a thousand words, then what does a picture with words tell?
Many of her works are influenced by the Cornish coastline, landscape, geography, geology, light and way of life. Many of these also incorporate Cornish words.
She has spent a lot of time travelling and has painted in the North, South, East and West of England! She has also spent a lot of time in London.
