I am a professional artist, now living and working in Corfu, Greece. For the last four years I was based in the South of France and before that in the Lake District (UK) where I still have family.
I began my professional career in the theatre where I became Associate Director at the Oxford Playhouse, working with actors like Judi Dench, Ian McKellan, Leonard Rossiter, Leo McKern and many others. It was there that I began to design my own sets and costumes as well as directing plays by Shakespeare, Shaw, Anhouilh, Ibsen etc.
I left the theatre and for many years worked in television as writer/director/producer. I specialised in drama-documentary. The early life of Beatrix Potter, for example, starring Helena Bonham Carter, won gold medal at the New York Television Festival in 1992.
I eventually left TV and was for ten years an academic, teaching Media Production at the Cumbria Institute of the Arts (UK). I was also an External Examiner at the Edinburgh College of Art and at Glasgow University.
In 2006 I left Carlisle and moved to France, to concentrate on my painting and writing. I exhibit my art widely throughout Europe and currently also have four books to my name, all now available on Kindle/Amazon. There are two crime-thrillers, an historical novel and a book of short stories. I am currently working for an exhibition of paintings in Venice in the Spring. I am also writing a third crime thriller and finishing an historical novel about Napoleon's occupation of Egypt. I am delighted to be amongst so many talented artists on this exciting new online gallery.
