I am a painter deeply rooted in the natural landscape, always searching through the subjects that grip me, for moments of pure inspiration in paint where imagination, intuition and physical beauty combine to both surprise and delight me.
My first love was, and still is, the mountains of the Scottish Highlands, and inparticular the way that atmosphere and space work in and around them. Living in Dumfries and Galloway has also opened my eyes to the beauty of coastal scenery, and at present I tread a very happy path between mountains and coast for my subject matter.
I am widely travelled in my search for inspirational experience, having hiked and sketched in the Scottish Western Highlands from the Trossachs in the south to Ardnamurchan in the west and as far north as Inverpolly Forest. I have also toured the French and Swiss Alps and the Italian Dolomites, have walked extensively in Cumbria’s Lake District and Eden Valley, and have explored the lakelands of County Kerry and Connemara in Ireland.
I am now settled at the very foot of Scotland near to the Solway Coast, in beautiful Dumfries and Galloway.
