    JOY KIRKTON SMITH

My work is figurative, with a strong emphasis on movement, dance and theatre. I also like to create images of eroticism and earthliness. My inspiration stems from capturing the aesthetic qualities of the human figure, combining the contrast between form and flux as tangible entities. My technique involves the blending of my focal characters into merged backgrounds, abstracting the moving figures from the stage.

I was born and raised in Worcestershire. My early interest in art stemmed from my family's painting and decorating business, whereI was encouraged to experiment with new styles and different materials. I became fascinated with drawing techniques whilst attending a college workshop group. I was particularly interested in applying those styles that would enable me to bring movement onto canvas.

To date, 88 limited edition prints have been published, the majority selling out upon release. I continue to seek reference by traveling widely.
